What a roof is made of
Five layers. The four you never see are the ones that fail.
A cheap quote and ours can look ten thousand dollars apart. The gap is almost always in here.
Put back together
That is what ends up under your shingles
Every layer specified in writing before we start, and both warranties handed over on paper at the walkthrough.
Why an oak
An oak stands for two hundred years because of what's underneath it. A roof is no different.
The root system of a mature oak is wider than its canopy. None of it shows, and all of it is the reason the tree is still there after the storms that took everything around it.
Roofs work the same way. What decides whether yours is sound in twenty years is the decking, the underlayment, the flashing and the ventilation — the parts nobody sees and the parts a cheap job skips.
What we do
Roofing and the exterior around it
Residential and commercial. If you are not sure which of these you need, that is what the free inspection is for.
Roof replacement
Full tear-off and re-roof. Architectural asphalt or standing-seam metal, synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water shield in the valleys, new drip edge, and ridge ventilation sized to the attic.
See what's included →Roof repair & leaks
Finding the actual point of entry instead of patching the stain on your ceiling. Flashing and pipe-boot failures, lifted or missing shingles, and emergency tarping when it cannot wait.
How we trace a leak →Storm & hail damage
A documented inspection with photographs, written up in the terms an adjuster works from. We meet the adjuster on site and talk through scope and line items so nothing gets missed.
How claims work →Siding, gutters & exteriors
Seamless gutters and guards, fascia and soffit, and siding replacement. It is half our name for a reason — a storm rarely stops at the roofline.
See exterior work →Storm & insurance claims
Hail damage is usually invisible from the ground
After a storm the question is rarely whether something looks wrong from the driveway — it is whether the granule loss, bruising and lifted seams up on the deck add up to a covered loss. You cannot see that from a ladder-free walk around the house, and neither can your insurer.
What an inspection finds
We walk the roof, photograph what is actually there, and write it up. You get the report either way. If you decide to file, we meet the adjuster on site so the scope reflects what is on your roof rather than what fits in a template.
- Full documented inspection with dated photographs
- Written findings you keep, whether or not you file
- We meet your adjuster on site and walk the roof with them
- Straight answers about what is storm damage and what is age
We cannot promise any claim will be approved, and we do not file claims on your behalf — that is between you and your insurer.
How the work is done
The parts of a roof you never see are the parts that fail
Anyone can nail down shingles. These are the decisions that decide whether the roof is still sound in fifteen years.
Tear-off, not layover
We strip down to the deck rather than shingling over the old layer. A layover hides rot, traps heat, doubles the weight on your framing, and makes the next roof more expensive than it needed to be.
Rotted decking gets replaced
Soft sheathing gets cut out and replaced, not covered up and nailed through. We show you the bad sections before we replace them, so you see what you are paying for.
Ice-and-water shield where it matters
In the valleys, along the eaves and around every penetration — the places water actually backs up. Synthetic underlayment across the rest of the field instead of felt that tears in the wind.
New flashing, never reused
Chimneys, sidewalls, skylights and vent boots get new metal and new boots. Reused flashing is the most common leak we get called out to fix on somebody else's two-year-old roof.
Ventilation that actually balances
Ridge exhaust matched to soffit intake. Get this wrong and the attic cooks the shingles from underneath, which voids most manufacturer warranties and takes years off the roof.
The site is clean before we leave
Tarps over the landscaping while we work, a magnetic sweep of the lawn and driveway at the end of every day, and a final pass before the dumpster goes.
Comparing quotes
What to check on every estimate you get
Not just ours. Two roofing quotes that look ten thousand dollars apart are usually two different jobs — the gap is almost always in this column.
| On the estimate | What we do | What a cheap quote often means |
|---|---|---|
| Old roof | Full tear-off to the deck | Second layer laid over the old one |
| Decking | Rotted sheathing replaced, quoted per sheet up front | Not mentioned, then billed as a surprise mid-job |
| Underlayment | Synthetic, plus ice-and-water shield in valleys and eaves | Felt paper across the whole roof |
| Flashing | New metal at every chimney, wall, skylight and vent | Existing flashing reused and re-sealed |
| Ventilation | Intake and exhaust measured and balanced | Whatever was there before, put back |
| Warranty | Written workmanship warranty plus the manufacturer's | "Warrantied" verbally, nothing on paper |
| Clean-up | Magnetic sweep daily and a final pass | Nails in your driveway for the next two years |
Ask any contractor to put those seven lines in writing. The ones doing the work properly will not hesitate.
How we sell
Take your time — the price is good for a year
Every written estimate we hand you stays valid for twelve months from its date. Go and get two more quotes. Sleep on it through a winter. Call us back in November and it is the same number.
Nothing expires tonight
Most people have sat at a kitchen table while the price came down because they were about to say no. That is not a discount, it is a deadline, and its only purpose is to stop you getting a second opinion. We price the work once, at what it costs, and it stands.
We won't chase you for it
No weekly follow-up calls, no "just checking in" texts, no manager who happens to be in the neighborhood. You will have the report, the number and our phone number. Use it when you are ready and not before.
Sometimes the answer is not yet
If your roof has four good years left in it, we will tell you so and show you the photographs that say so. We would rather be the company you call in four years than the one that sold you a roof you did not need.
Material prices move. Yours will not, for twelve months. The only thing that can change the figure is the roof itself — if it deteriorates further while you are deciding, or you add work to the scope, that part gets re-quoted in writing with photographs of what changed. The rest of the price stays where we put it.
What to expect
Four steps, no pressure at any of them
Free inspection
We walk the roof, photograph what we find, and hand you the report. No cost, nothing to sign, and no obligation to go further.
Written estimate
Itemized scope and materials, in writing, so you can compare it against anyone else's. The price is good for twelve months — no same-day-only pricing, and no discount that expires tonight.
Installation
A scheduled crew and materials delivered ahead of them. Most residential roofs are done in one to two days, with your property protected while we work.
Walkthrough & warranty
We go over the finished roof with you, then hand over the written workmanship warranty and the manufacturer's paperwork for your records.
Service area
Based in Blackwood, working across three states
